Online Dollhouse Help & Resources

Online Dollhouse Instructions

To get started, ask your client to browse through the collection of available figures (tabs 1-7) and explore the functionality.

Manipulating the Figures

To insert an image into the Dollhouse simply click on your desired picture. To resize an image, drag on any of the orange handles around your selection. The top center circular dot around your image allows you to rotate left and right.

Understanding Dollhouse Controls

On the top right you will find more buttons to enhance how you can use the Dollhouse:
  • Use copy to duplicate the image, you can copy as many times as you want to create your scene (i.e. to fill a room with many people).
  • Use flip to have your figure face the other direction (i.e. to have figures talking).
  • Use delete to remove a single image.
  • Use the back and front buttons to bring images forward and back. Your newest image selection will always begin on top of the other figures, you can use these controls to adjust.
  • When your image is complete you can save as a .jpg to your desktop. And once the session is over you can use the clear button to start again.

Tips for Using Alongside your Client

  • Either ask your client if there's a scene they want to create, or provide them with a prompt and ask them to imagine a scene.
  • Ask them to make their scene by clicking on each image to add it to the dollhouse.
  • Ask your client to describe their scene to you. Use projective exercises to ask the client to be some (not usually all) of the people and objects they chose.
  • Follow up with the exercise: does the projection make sense for the client in their life?

Dollhouse Using the Oaklander Model Course

The Oaklander Model uses the Dollhouse as a play therapy tool to improve their sense of self. The dollhouse is an excellent tool to use with children, regardless of gender, because it is a familiar item in children’s playrooms, and all children can relate to some living space that the dollhouse represents. Using the dollhouse app, or of course an actual dollhouse, they can create scenes that represent their view of their actual living situation, what they wish for, as well as many other options.

This course includes:

  • The rationale for using the dollhouse in play therapy.
  • The application of the Oaklander Model using the dollhouse.
  • How to establish a relationship with the client using the dollhouse as an option in play therapy.
  • Prompts to use that utilize the dollhouse in creative ways.

After completing this course you will have received theory and experiential examples that demonstrate how and why to apply the concepts of the Oaklander Model using the dollhouse.
